This business guide provides an overview of the primary work health and safety (WHS) obligations to assist Consult Australia members understand the scope and nature of their WHS obligations as duty holders. This guide is for internal use by member businesses of Consult Australia.

This business guide does not provide a definitive analysis of all WHS responsibilities and obligations. Consulting businesses may also have obligations under contract or as a designer or project manager which are not dealt with here. This guide is confined to matters of general principle providing a foundation of knowledge on which to build.
